Is your Business Card earning its keep?

In an increasingly aggressive and crowded marketplace, a powerful corporate image has to be one of a company’s biggest assets. We all think of a smart but practical staff uniform, the welcoming reception area and our branded stationery, but one area that is commonly overlooked is that of the humble business card

Open any one of your desk drawers now and inevitably there’ll be a liberal scattering of anonymous little white cards. On one side, a jaunty logo and someone’s name, and on the other side an expanse of blank card. You were delighted to meet that person, but now their face and those business pearls of wisdom you shared are just a dim and distant memory. But there is a simple way to ensure that your business card, carefully placed in the hands of a potential customer, is not condemned to desk drawer oblivion. Turn it over and use the back!
Remember, business cards are an integral part of your business image and yet very few people take the time to make theirs different from their competitors. Most companies only use 50% of their cards. They completely forget about the back. You’re paying for these little ambassadors, so it makes sense to use them to their full potential.

And what to put on the back? Well, why not print a map to make it easy for visitors to find your site. Perhaps you could list your products or services, so a buyer can easily remember why they wanted to talk to you. Look at this blank space as an additional advertising and public relations opportunity and print a testimonial from a happy client. Nothing sells your services more effectively than a recommendation from a current customer.

And here’s another incentive, printing on the back of your card doesn’t double the cost!

If you are still doubtful about the power of a well designed and written business card let me tell you about mine. This has been designed to look like a very small brochure, with space to record where we met, and what we discussed. It has become a definite talking point and has secured Ultimedia business because it stands out from the crowd. People remember me and can see that I think differently to most PR or marketing people, which means that the work we produce for them will also be creative and innovative.

Now, take a look at your own business card and ask yourself one question – is it really earning its keep?
